My name is Devansh Maheshwari, 24 years old. I am a qualified ACCA, secured AIR 1 in the APM exam, and a CFA Level 2 Candidate. Currently, I’m working as an Equity Research Associate at AC Agarwal Share Brokers.

I got introduced to the stock markets during my first year of college in 2019. During breaks, a few of my batchmates used to discuss about the stock market, which intrigued me to learn more about it. I opened my demat account at 18 and started investing some money earned from the internships. I tried my hand at everything – Intraday, Momentum, Long Term, and Futures & Options. Lost some money, but gained a lot of knowledge.

During the initial days of the COVID-19 pandemic, I received a call from my college friend, who was planning to start a YouTube channel with other batchmates. Eventually, four of us started a YouTube channel named FinSpace India and began uploading videos explaining the business models of listed companies. I began reading annual reports, investor presentations, conference call transcripts, brokerage reports, and other documents to understand the various business models and value chains. During the same period, I used to prepare equity research reports as a freelancer.

At 20, I was done with my undergraduation and ACCA qualifications. While my friends were applying for jobs at MNCs, I decided to join my friend’s startup, which just raised a seed round of funding. The startup was far away from the stock market. But I still decided to join as I wanted to build something. It turned out to be a great experience. We failed more than we ever imagined and pivoted twice. Unfortunately, we were not able to raise another round of funding, and the money ran out, so we finally decided to shut down.

At 22, I went back into the equity research field. This time, I worked with experienced people who shaped my knowledge and understanding of the businesses in a more structured way. I got an opportunity to work as a sell-side analyst and learned about the different aspects of the stock broking industry in-depth.
